Hope City Field Guide
WHO WE ARE
A postmodern city. An ancient way.

We are a gospel-centered, Spirit-led church committed to loving God, loving one another, and loving Baltimore in tangible ways. We are not chasing what is current. We are following Jesus.

1973
A HISTORY OF FAITHFULNESS
Our story is still being written.

Hope City Church has been part of Baltimore since 1973. In 1986, the church moved into its current home in Highlandtown. Through seasons of growth and challenge, God has remained faithful.

In 2011, Pastors Brad and Mary Dickey became the lead pastors, and the church began to be reshaped by a fresh vision. What was a small congregation has become both a local church and a launching place for addiction recovery, education, and surrendered discipleship.

OUR THEOLOGICAL CENTER
What holds us when everything moves.

These convictions shape our preaching, our prayer, our relationships, and our life in the city.

01
Jesus at the center

The cross is not an accessory to our message. Jesus Christ—crucified, risen, and reigning—is our hope and our life.

02
The Bible as our guide

Scripture has authority over our beliefs, our desires, our relationships, and our shared life. We do not bend it to fit the age.

03
The Spirit in the room

We depend on the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. We pray, listen, worship, and make room for God to lead His Church.

04
Holiness as love

Holiness is not image management. It is the beauty of a life surrendered to Jesus, with hidden things brought into the light.

05
Church as shared life

Community is not an add-on. We serve, forgive, carry burdens, practice truth, and grow in obedience together.

06
Baltimore as assignment

We believe the gospel still transforms lives. We move toward the city’s pain with truth, practical love, and enduring presence.

“If the Church in America would get love right, the world around us would be transformed.”

Love is not softness toward what destroys people. It tells the truth, protects the vulnerable, practices mercy, calls sin what it is, and stays close enough to help someone walk into freedom.
